Ingredients

  • 1 baguette (long French bread)
  • 1 cup of mixed salad greens (lettuce, spinach, arugula, etc.)
  • 1 medium-sized tomato, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 cucumber, thinly sliced
  • 4-6 slices of your favorite cheese (such as cheddar, Swiss, or provolone)
  • 2-3 tablespoons of mayonnaise or your preferred sandwich spread
  • Salt and pepper to taste

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Cut the baguette into sandwich-sized pieces, then slice each piece in half lengthwise.
  3. Place the baguette halves on a baking sheet and toast them in the preheated oven for about 5 minutes, or until they are lightly crispy.
  4. While the baguette is toasting, prepare your salad ingredients. Wash and dry the salad greens, slice the tomato and cucumber thinly, and set aside.
  5. Once the baguette halves are toasted, remove them from the oven and let them cool for a minute or two.
  6. Spread a thin layer of mayonnaise or your preferred sandwich spread on one side of each baguette half.
  7. Place a handful of mixed salad greens on the bottom half of each baguette.
  8. Top the salad greens with slices of tomato and cucumber.
  9. Place 2-3 slices of cheese on top of the vegetables on each sandwich.
  10. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  11. Finally, place the top half of the baguette on each sandwich to complete it.
